Meet Dr. Thomas

Dr. Neil Thomas is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who loves seeing the impact of oral surgery and practicing a variety of procedures to improve his patients’ lives.

About Dr. Thomas

From Libertyville, Illinois, Dr. Thomas discovered his love for oral and maxillofacial surgery early in his dental training. He enjoyed the impact of oral surgery and the variety of procedures, and appreciated the ability as an oral surgeon to combine his medical and dental expertise. During dental school, Dr. Thomas published research related to craniofacial bone development and founded the oral surgery student group, further fueling his interests in the specialty.

He enjoyed a number of successes during dental school, including receiving the prestigious American Association of Dental Research Student Research Fellowship award and being inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. He loves being an oral surgeon—not a single day feels like work!

When searching for the right practice to join, Dr. Thomas quickly found that Michigan Oral Surgeons was a perfect fit. Workplace culture is very important to him because it reflects on the morale of the office and ultimately the patient experience. From his first conversation with the other surgeons, Dr. Thomas felt like he was talking with old friends. He feels proud to be a part of a practice that has a very strong reputation among dentists and other medical professionals in our community, and to be a part of a team that holds patient care as the top priority with no expense spared.

Thomas values the trust his patients place in him and takes pride in being able to introduce them to the surgical process while helping them set realistic goals and expectations. He helps patients feel comfortable by openly discussing the procedure and helping patients make informed decisions about their care. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Thomas finds it incredibly rewarding to give back to his community and specialty. He has authored a textbook chapter related to facial soft tissue trauma and plans to continue furthering his specialty through similar endeavors.
