Receive Prompt and Gentle Treatment for Mouth Abnormalities

Oral pathology refers to the diagnosis and treatment of any abnormality inside the mouth, salivary glands, or jaws. While many oral irregularities are benign (non-cancerous), it is always best to receive prompt evaluation and treatment of any oral irregularities from a dental health specialist.

The pink-colored mucus membrane that lines the inside of the mouth is a common area for an abnormality to occur. Common examples include:

  • Mucoceles
  • Chronic ulcers
  • Oral cancer
  • Canker sores
  • Fever blisters
  • Fibromas
  • Cysts and tumors in the jaw bones
  • Salivary gland disease

Symptoms that may indicate the need for evaluation include:

  • Patches in the mouth that are red or white
  • A chronic sore throat or hoarseness
  • Difficulty in chewing or swallowing
  • A sore that fails to heal and bleeds easily or is painful

When you come to Michigan Oral Surgeons, we will perform a complete oral examination, including 3D imaging. Any surgical treatment, such as a biopsy, can be performed in the convenience of our own practice. We offer several options for anesthesia to ensure our patients feel comfortable throughout their treatment.

The mouth is one of the body’s most important warning systems, which is why we recommend performing an oral self-examination monthly. Do not ignore suspicious lumps or sores. If you experience any of the above symptoms on your lips, palate, cheeks, or gum tissue around the teeth, tongue, face and/or neck, you should contact Michigan Oral Surgeons promptly.
